Suparerat Mchintosh, 36, has amazed Nepal Police personnel not only because she chose a new route to smuggle the drug but her choice of Tuna fish can to hide the drug.
This is arguably the first time that Nepal Police has seized cocaine in Kathmandu.
“We have learnt that Nepal is being used as a route to smuggle cocaine to various destinations, mainly Thailand,” informed Nawaraj Silwal, Deputy Chief at Narcotics Drugs Control Law Enforcement Unit (NDCLEU).
“We can´t completely rule out the possibility of Thai national´s connections in Nepal,” Silwal said. “We are conducting further investigation in this regard.”
A team of NDCLEU arrested the Thai national with Thai passport (Y 951544) at TIA on 11:30 pm Wednesday while she was leaving for Kuala Lampur. Police investigation also revealed that she had torn all her documents, including her air tickets before police could arrest her.
Police investigation has revealed that she spent around 14,000 US dollars for her tickets alone to smuggle 1-kg cocaine worth 200, 000 US dollars in the international market.
Speaking at a press conference, Silwal said the cocaine was sealed in Peru. “She has confessed that the cocaine was brought from Peru,” he further said.
The police also found that the Thai national was scheduled to reach Malaysia on January 5 and stay there for four nights and move to Bangkok on January 9. She was hiding at Pilgrims Guest House in Thamel during her stay in Nepal.
