Situation at the ministry turned worse after there was no consensus on different lists of transfers submitted by three major civil servants´ unions affiliated to UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN-UML. [break]
Tuesday was the deadline to make annual transfers within the ministry. Senior officials at the ministry had stayed in the ministry to resolve the issue through dialogue with the employees union till late evening, according to sources at the ministry.
The problem arose from allocation of lucrative postings. The lucrative postings are chief district officers in districts along the Nepal-India border and Kathmandu, and at the Department of Immigration and Tribhuvan International Airport, according to officials.
The main entrance was closed after 5:30 as the unions engaged in verbal altercations for and against the transfers. Police were also deployed to keep the situation under control. Journalists were barred from entering Singha Durbar premises.
