The meeting headed by state-minister Sunita Kumari Sah on Monday decided to dissolve the committee before submission of the report.[break]
One of the officials of the taskforce said that the committee was being dissolved to avoid legal difficulties as no civil servant can be kept away from their concerned department for more than two months under Civil Servant Act.
According to MoIC source, the taskforce was formed after the members tried to oppose the decision of the ministry and the regulator on unified licensing and extension of renewal period of telecommunication services from five to 10 years questioning the legal validity of the decisions. The proposal on unified licensing was rejected by the cabinet in 2007.
The committee formed for three month had started working from mid-February and was preparing drafts for the report.
The task force was formed to advise appropriate policy on telecommunication spectrum management, infrastructure sharing, convergence regulation of media, broadcasting and telecommunication, infrastructure development and digital migration of terrestrial broadcasting.
The taskforce was headed by Surya Bahadur Raut, chief technical officer at the ministry. The other members were Ananda Raj Khanal, director at Nepal Telecommunicaitons Authority, Gaurav Giri, senior technical officer at the minister and Namakar Neupane of Nepal Telecom.
