BIRGUNJ, April 24: Life in several districts in the Tarai remains affected Friday for a third day due to an "indefinite" general shutdown called by Tharuhat Struggle Committee.

Hundreds of passenger buses and other vehicles are stuck at several places as the protesters blocked the East-West Highway by pitching tents along the road.

The protesters have blocked the highway at Chandranigahapur in Rautahat district. Likewise, the strikers have obstructed the the Birgunj-Pathlaiya section causing supply of goods from Birgunj to stop.

The protesters closed down the market, educational institutions, offices and industrial areas.

The organizations representing Tharu communities took to the street alleging government apathy toward implementing the March 14 agreement reached with the government. They started protests in 22 Tarai districts.
