Some eight passengers died on the spot while one breathed his last while undergoing treatment, said the police.[break]
Of the deceased are Khagendra Shrestha of Panchthar Phidim, driver Shyam Ijam of Tiringe, Sharmila Katuwal and her daughter Diksha Katuwal, Baldhwoj Limbu of Linkhim, Taplejung, Durga Rijal of Linkhim Dhauwa, Sabina Limbu of the same place and Arjun Ojha of Panchthar and a woman is yet to be identified, said the District Police Office.
Helper Nima Sherpa, Santosh Limbu, Yub Raj Limbu, Nisha Limbu, Lok Mani Limbu of Dokhu and Roshan Ojha, Tara Ojha of Panchathar Ghanashyam Katuwal, Samixa Katuwal, Rajen Katuwal of Kalikhola-4, Narendra Dahal of Phungling-4 and Ranjit Pradhan of Dharan were among the injured.
Of them, six people are undergoing treatment at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan while rest of the wounded were sent to other places for treatment.
Most of them had injuries to their hands and legs, said Doctor Anil Chaudhary.
The accident took place on the Mechi Highway when the Pick-Up Van (Me1Ja1437) was on the way to Taplejung from Paanchthar.
The jeep had reportedly fell some 500 meters below the road, according to the police.
