Men´s title of the same event went to Ajay Pandit of the Central Region. Both of them are defending champions. Tamrakar finished the four lap distance of 24 km in 1:53:59 hours. Laxmi Rana (2:00:07 hour) of the Western Region and Sita Rimal (2:40: 26 hour) of Central Region bagged second and third positions respectively. [break]
Pandit finished the six lap distance of 36 km in 2:01:18 hours in the men´s section. The second and third positions also went to the Central region. Rajkumar Shrestha clocked 2:06:15 hours and Narayan Gopal Maharjan clocked 2:08:44 hours to finish behind Pandit.
The Central Region also bagged two silver and bronze medals each.
After knowing from Republica that the gold she achieved was the first gold of the National Games, she said, “It always gives immense pleasure to be first in anything. I am very much happy for this,” said the 31-year old who came from UAE to compete in the event on Monday.
“I was optimistic about clinching gold as I had finished the heat on Saturday 20-25 minutes faster than other participants. I had also finished second during Trans Hajar Mountain Bike Race held a couple of weeks earlier in Oman.”
Revealing her future plans, Tamrakar who stays with her British husband in UAE said she will compete in other cycling competitions recognized by International Cycling Union (UCI) and prepare for the Olympics. Nepal Olympic Committee has applied for a wild card for Tamrakar´s participation.
"Let´s be optimistic that I shall get the wild card for 2012 London Olympic," said Tamrakar who is planning to stay in Nepal for a few more weeks.
