TAAN President Mahendra Singh Thapa said his organization deployed two separate teams to explore the areas last month.[break]
Thapa said, “We are yet to receive the detail report from the team but according to team members the trekking route to Fungling- the headquarter of Taplejung will take 21 days from Kathmandu and 18 days from Tumlingtar, Sankhuwasabha.”
The Taplejung trek passes Mitlung, Chhitruwa, Lelep, Selep and Olangchung Gola in northern part of the district and enters Sankhuwasabha district crossing the Lamabsumba Pass located at an altitude of 5,177 meters.
Likewise, the other newly designed route is a nine-day trek in lower Lower Manaslu Region. “Dharche Danda in Lower Manaslu offers magnificent view of mountains from Dhaulagiri in the west to Dorje Lakpa in the east,” he said. Beautiful Gurung villages in Laprak and Baprak were other major attractions of the route.
Rana Bahadur Khadka, first vice president of TAAN and Gopal Babu Shrestha, executive member of TAAN led the expedition team respectively to develop these two new trekking routes.
TAAN plans to develop an itinerary to promote the new routes as unique package amongst trekker. It also plans to publish separate maps, brochures and documentaries for their promotion.
Great Himalaya Trial Development Project (GHTDP) and TAAN jointly invested for the development of these routes. “The trail will also be beneficial for those wishing to complete Great Himalayan Trail from Taplejung or Solukhumbu rather than trekking the complete route,” he said.
