BARA, Feb 6: Farmers in Bara districts staged sit-in at the main gate of Reliance Sugar and Chemical Industries at Manaharwa-5 of Bara on Wednesday, demanding timely payment for the sugarcane they sold to the mill.

Farmers had sold sugarcane to the mill at Rs 483 per quintal on credit. Birendra Kushbaha, president of Sugarcane Producer Farmers Association of Bara, said the mill had been delaying the payment even though it has already crushed sugarcane worth Rs 500,000. [break]

Meanwhile, 350 tractors carrying freshly harvested sugarcane have line up at the main entrance of sugar mill as the mill failed to weigh sugarcane due to frequent disruption in production process.

According to farmers, sugarcane has started to dry up due to delay in procurement by the mills.
