KATHMANDU, Nov 2: Denizens of the Kathmandu valley dug out warm clothes from their closets Wednesday as temperature dipped sharply by over four degree Celsius.

Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) on Wednesday recorded a maximum temperature of just 19 degree Celsius, which, according to the division, is unusually low for early November.[break]

Usually, maximum temperatures hover around 25 degree Celsius in early November. The maximum temperature stood at 23.3 degree Celsius on Tuesday.

On November 2 in 2009, the MFD had recorded maximum temperature of 27 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature was 26.2 degree Celsius on the same day in 2010. “We are witnessing partial weather change marked by sporadic rains these days,” said a weather observer at the MFD, adding, “This has caused the mercury to dip almost across the country. We can expect warmer days ahead.”

The decline in maximum temperature means people feel cold throughout the day. On Wednesday, minimum temperature too dipped to 9.5 degree Celsius -- a decrease by one degree Celsius compared to the previous day. As a result of the dip in minimum temperature, most parts of the valley were enveloped in fog for hours Wednesday morning.
