SYANGJA, April 23: Normal life in Syangja was hit hard by a banda called by the Matrika Yadav-led CPN (Maoist) since Friday morning. Transport services, industries, shops and educational institutions were in Putali Bazaar as well as in other towns in the district.

The party called the banda to protest the attack on the family of one of its district leaders by YCL cadres, the youth wing of UCPN (Maoist), on April 6.

In Kaski, normal life was affected due to a shutdown called by the UCPN-Maoist student wing ANNISU-R. Transport services, factories, markets and schools remained closed in Pokhara and Lekhnath municipalities.

The union called the shutdown demanding release of the leaders of the union who were arrested over a clash with UML students a few days ago. Meanwhile, a motorcycle rally planned by the CPN-UML on Friday as part of publicity for a mass meeting on Saturday was put off.

In Jhapa, a little known organization called Meche Shifiyari Afat staged transport strike on Dhaijan-Charali section of the east-west highway, demanding compensation to the family of 40-year-old Phulsari Meche who was killed in a truck accident nearly eight months ago. The protesters did not allow even the press vehicles to ply.

In Rajbiraj of Saptari, traders continued the shutdown in the town for the second day in a row against irregular supply of electricity.

Traders and local youths protesting excessive load-shedding shut the bazaar and transport services down.
