Bir Balabhadra Higher Secondary School of Koteli VDC also suffered similar fate. “All rooms had corrugated sheets as roof and the storm blew roofs of all the rooms,” rued president of the management committee of the school Bhojraj Bhatta. Bhatta put the loss of school at around Rs 2 million and said the classes are being taken in the ground. The storm also destroyed dozens of computers and teaching materials.
He said the school had no resources for reconstruction and pleaded for financial help. Similarly, Principal of Kalika Lower Secondary School in Bagarkot VDC Nara Bahadur Mali said the newly constructed building of the school was totally destroyed by the storm.
Around 17 schools in around a dozen VDCs including Bhageshwar, Rupal, Manilek, Belapur and Navadurga are running classes in the open due to the storm. The guardians are also worried as the school buildings built with their hard work and financial help have been destroyed.
School Inspector at the District Education Office Laxman Giri conceded the storm has rendered many school buildings unusable. He said newly constructed buildings have been hit hard by the storm and reports from other schools are also trickling in.
