PARSA, Aug. 1: The number of spotted tigers has decreased at the Parsa Wild Life Reserve, a blow to the government target to double the tiger population within a decade.

The tiger population reached three after locals of Churiyamai VDC of Makawanpur district killed one tiger by feeding a carcass of a cow laced with poison, said Assistant Conservation Officer, Gopal Ghimire. [break]

Four tigers were found at the reserve during the nationwide tiger census some two years ago.

Meanwhile, a team of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Police arrested three persons along with 15 kilograms of tiger´s bone from Birgunj Sunday night.

Shailendra Basnet of Sisaut VDC-2 and Dipendra Chaudhary of Jabdi VDC-4 of Sarlahi district and Jarsi Chaudhary of Supaul VDC-9 of Parsa district were arrested and sent to the Birgunj jail for investigation.
