SPORTS BRIEFS: TT players off to Germany

KATHMANDU, March 24: A three member table tennis team on Saturday left for Germany to participate in the World Table Tennis Team Event. The tournament is scheduled to be held from March 25 to April 2. Ranjit Singh Raymajhi and Shiva Shankar Gothe are participating in the tournament as players while Sushil Poudel is participating as a coach.



Altogether four players were selected for the tournament but the German embassy did not provide visa for other two players. The other two players were Purushottam Bajracharya and Ajay Suwal. [break]The participation of these two players will be decided by Monday.



ICHM, LACM enters quarterfinal

KATHMANDU: International College of Hospitality Management (ICHM) and Little Angel´s College of Management (LACM) B have advanced to the quarterfinal of football category in the Sixth LA Cup Inter College Sports Tournament on Saturday. ICHM thrashed Mega College 7-1 while LACM defeated Nepal College of Management 3-1.



Defending champion Capital College of Research Center and Apex College also advanced into the quarterfinal. Capital edged past Caspian College 4-1 in a penalty shootout. Apex beat Mahendra Adarsha School 4-1.



Karki wins golf title


KATHMANDU: Bishnu Bahadur Karki won the men´s title of the K2-Mount Everest Friendship Golf Tournament on Saturday. Karki scored 42 points in the tournament played on stable ford format. Damodar Khadka remained in the second position with 39 points in the tournament played at the Army Officers´ Golf Course. Nischay Jung Raymajhi won the best gross award. Krishna Narayan Singh scored 35 points to finish first in the senior category.



With three birdies Basanta Raj Gurung won the most birdies award. Niraj Pun won closest to the pin while Mahesh Bahadur Karki won the longest drive award.



Gurung leads ANFA colts to victory


DHANKUTA: With twin goals from skipper Hemanta Gurung, ANFA Academy, Kathmandu registered a 2-1 win over Armed Police Force (APF), Jhapa on Saturday during International Invitational Bhojpur Gold Cup Football Tournament being held in Bhojpur. Gurung scored the goals in the 7th and 37th minutes. APF cut the goal deficit in the 49th minute through Jiralal Chaudhary.



Gurung of ANFA was adjudged the man-of-the-match. Gurung was awarded with a Bhojpure Khukuri by ANFA Bhojpur President Bidhya Bhusan Shrestha. Co-host, The Soaltee United Club of Bhojpur, will lock horn with United Kharsang FC of Darjeeling, India on Sunday.
