According to the organizers, top two players from Nepal pool and top two from India pool in each weight category will qualify to the semifinals of the tournament after the initial rounds between compatriots. Hamal beats Shrestha
KATHMANDU: FIDE Master Manish Hamal, Rupesh Jaiswal, Madan Krishna Kayastha and Krishna Thapa shared the lead in the Nepal Bank Ltd Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament after the completion of third round on Monday. All the four players have three points each. Hamal defeated Milan Roka in the second round and edged past another FIDE Master Sujendra Prasad Shrestha in the third round. Jaiswal defeated Som Aale and Niraj Niraula on Monday while Kayastha beat Himal Lama and Damodar Gainju.
Likewise, Thapa crushed Pranit Sigdel and Purna Raj Khadka in the second and third round respectively. Former Nepal champion Badri Lal Nepali, Nabin Tandukar, Rajan Puri, Rajendra Prasad Shrestha, Prem Krishna Maharjan and Santosh Gautam, all, have 2.5 points each after the completion of the third round and share the second position.
National open boxing from Dec 12
KATHMANDU: Uttar Bhagiyea Pariwa, Kathmandu is organizing the First Nation-wide Open Boxing Championship from December 12 at Gamcha in Chunikhel VDC in Kathmandu. The four-day event will see participation of 150 players in total from three departmental teams, different clubs and districts, said Prakash Shrestha, the coordinator of event management committee during a press conference on Monday. The male players will vie in 10 weight categories and women players in six weight categories.
The players from outside capital city will be provided with food and accommodation as well as allowances. According to Nepal Boxing Association´s Senior Vice-president Arjun KC the event was organized to promote the northern area of Kathmandu. The expected cost of the championship is Rs 2.5 million.
