SPORTS BRIEFS: Shrestha to lead archery again

KATHMANDU, Dec 3: The Nepal Archery Association general assembly held in Kathmandu on Saturday unanimously elected Laxman Kumar Shrestha as its president for the next four years.



The general assembly also elected 14-member executive committee unanimously. Hari Dhwoj Tulachan, Basant Thakali and Sundar Gurung have been elected vice-presidents and Deepak Raj Gurung general secretary. [break]Ramesh Prasad Siwakoti the is secretary of the committee while Shailesh Karmacharya has been elected treasurer. Narendra Dangol, Gupt Sherchan, Devaraj Pandey, Yogendra Sherchan, Kishor KC, Dhawaling Gurung and Karma Gurung have been elected members.


Cosmic clinches title


KATHMANDU: Cosmic won the title of the Sixth FECA Cup Inter School Boys´ Knockout Football Tournament on Saturday. Cosmic defeated Kotdevi 3-2 in a tiebreaker in the final match played at Pepsi-Cola, Kathmandu. The regulation time of the match ended with a 2-2 draw and the additional time remained goalless. Uttam Giri of Kotdevi received the best player of the tournament award while Season Dahal of Greenwich was awarded with the best goalkeeper title. Ashish Shrestha won the prizes for the highest scorer for eight goals in the tournament.



Don Bosco reaches QF


KATHMANDU: Nepal Don Bosco booked the quarterfinal spot in the 16th National Father Moran Memorial Invitational Boys´ Football Tournament on Saturday. Nepal Don Bosco thrashed United School 6-1 in the group ´C´ match played at the ground of host St Xaviers, Godawari. Nawang Lama completed his hat-trick while David Ghale scored two and Gautam Shrestha added a goal for the winning side. Nilam Anmol scored the consolation goal for United.



Gyanodaya, Vanasthali win matches


KATHMANDU: Gyanodaya and Siddhartha Vanasthali won their respective matches on Saturday in the Inter School Boys´ Football Tournament under the 18th Eicher-Gyan Carnival. Gyanodaya thrashed Chelsea 7-0 as Ashok Jubagu scored four goals. Roshan Byanjankar added two gaols while Bibek Malla scored a goal. Likewise, Vanasthali eased past IJ Pioneer 5-0.



New Diamond, Annal Jyoti win titles


KATHMANDU: New Diamond and the host Annal Jyoti won the titles of senior girls´ and mini boys´ sections respectively in the 11th Annal Jyoti Cup Valley-wide Inter School Volleyball Tournament on Saturday. New Diamond thrashed Bijeshwari 25-6, 25-9, 25-6 to win senior girls´ title for the fourth time. Likewise, Annal Jyoti beat Paradigm 25-9, 20-25, 17-25, 25-22, 15-12 to clinch mini boys´ title. Bishal Panta of Paradigm and Ramila Tandukar of New Diamond were adjudged the best player of the tournament in mini boys´ and senior girls´ section respectively.


Birgunj continues unbeaten run

KATHMANDU: Birgunj Youth Club continued with its unbeaten run in the Martyrs Memorial Red Bull B Division League after it played a goalless draw against Gyan Bhairav Club on Saturday at the Nepal Police Academy, Maharjgunj. Birgunj with 12 points remained unchanged from the top spot after playing six matches with three wins and draws each. Gyan Bhairav has five points. In another match, Tusal Youth Club thumped Kumari Youth Club 3-0 riding on two goals of Shyam Babu Kakshapati who netted in the 57th and second minute of stoppage time after Pravash Kumar Lama had given early third minute lead. With the win, Tusal climbed on fourth with 11 points and Kumari has five points.
