SPORTS BRIEFS: Saraswati register win

KATHMANDU, March 4: Defending champions Saraswati Campus started the Fourth Benoj Memorial Inter-college Boys Basketball Tournament on a winning note on Friday.



Saraswati struggled past Orient College 38-36 in the inaugural match held at Morgan College, Basundhara. [break]



In another match, Himalayan College defeated CAB 29-23. Altogether 41 teams are participating in the tournament. Saraswati Campus have won all the editions of the tournament so far.



Newton in semis


KATHMANDU: Newton College advanced into the semifinals of the First Manaslu Cup Inter-college Volleyball Tournament on Friday. Newton saw off Bajra College 25-22, 25-12 to top group D in order to qualify for the semifinals. The hosts Manaslu ´A´ defeated Angles´ Heart 25-20, 25-17 at their home court in Naya Bazar to set up a semifinal clash with Geetamata College, who earned a walkover from Classic College in the quarterfinal match.
