SPORTS BRIEFS: Sankata comes on top

KATHMANDU, March 28: Sankata Club came atop the standings with second victory in a row while Kasturi Yuva Club of Siraha achieved first victory on Wednesday in the Red Bull B Division National Football League under way at the Buddhibikash ground, Lagankhel.



In course of achieving the second victory from as many matches, Sankata defeated Trinity Club of Syangja 2-1. The win lifted Sankata to top spot from second position with six points while Trinity hit the bottom of the table remaining pointless. [break]



Sankata scored both the goals in second half. Bikram Adhikari put Sankata in charge in the 56th minute and UD Gurung doubled advantage in the 63rd minute. Sushil Lama pulled one back for Trinity two minutes from time.



In another match, Kasturi edged past Tusal 2-0 with late goals to achieve first point and victory. Dipendra Chaudhary opened scoring for Kasturi in the 86th minute and Sandesh Chaudhary sealed the victory during stoppage time.



With the result, Kasturi, placed bottom, leapfrogged three notches to the fifth with three points. Tusal, yet to open scoring dropped two spots below to seventh.



Golden Jubilee Cup golf in Dharan

KATHMANDU: Nirvana Country Club Health and Golf Resort is all set to organize Golden Jubilee Cup, amateur golf tournament, to commemorate 50 years of Golf in Dharan. At a press meet in the capital on Tuesday, Nirvana informed that the event will tee off at Nirvana Country Club, Dharan on April 7. Nirvana Country Club, previously known as Dharan Country Club was established in 1962 by British Gorkha Army Regiment in Ghopa Camp, Dharan.



"The Golden Jubilee Cup would provide exposure to all golfers in the eastern region," said Shashi Ram Bhandari, chairman of Nirvana Country Club. The championship will be played over 18 holes on a stableford format with ¾ handicap allowance. "Thirty golfers from Kathmandu will join another 30 local golfers in the one-day tournament," said Deepak Acharya, General Secretary of NPGA.



"We are also planning to hold a few more golf tournaments to mark golden jubilee and we´ll also felicitate senior golfers of the eastern region this year," said Bhandari.


CCRC, APEX in football final

KATHMANDU: Defending champion Capital College and Research Center (CCRC) and APEX College on Wednesday advanced to the final of the men´s football in Sixth LA Cup Inter College Sports Competition. CCRC edged past host Little Angel´s College of Management B 1-0 while APEX beat International College of Hospitality Management (ICHM) 3-2.



Sabin KC scored the lone goal in CCRC´s victory while Pramesh Khatri, Ramesh Khatri and Prabesh Gartaula scored for APEX. Subash Baniya and Binod Rai were on target for ICHM.


Gorkha Boys upset ANFA colts for final place

DHANKUTA : Gorkha Boys Sports Club of Rupandehi advanced into the final with a 3-1 win over ANFA Academy in the penalty shootout on Wednesday during International Invitational Bhojpur Gold Cup under way in Bhojpur. Gorkha Boys will take on Dhankura Football Club in the final to be played on Thursday.



The fate of the winner was decided in the shootout following 2-2 draw in regulation time and goalless draw in added time. Rungrihang Rai was the only player of ANFA to succeed in shootout.



Saurab Magar, Rabin Thapa and Raj Paudel converted for Gorkha Boys in the shootout. ANFA´s Hemanta Gurung, Anjan Lama and Sagar Lama were prevented by Gorkha Boys goalie Ranjit Gurung. Krishna Lama missed spotkick for Gorkha Boys.



Earlier, Krishna Lama and Noor Raj Kafle had scored for Gorkha Boys in the 37th and 64th minutes while Hemanta Gurung and Rishi Thapa Magar scored for ANFA in the 44th and 65th minutes respectively. Hemanta Gurung of ANFA was declared the man-of-the-match.
