SPORTS BRIEFS: Quarterfinal line-up complete

KATHMANDU, June 12: Quarterfinal line-up of the Second Premier Cup 3X3 Basketball Tournament in the boys´ category has been completed. From the league and pre quarterfinal matches played at the covered hall of Dashrath Stadium on Tuesday, NASA, Golden Gate B, Premier B, Kaski, Golden Gate A, South Siders A, Premier A and Morgan have advanced to the quarterfinals.



In the pre quarterfinals, NASA thrashed Jhapa 21-10 while Golden Gate B registered a 17-13 win over South Siders B. Premier B registered narrow margin 15-12 win over Navodit A.[break]



Kaski defeated Nakhipot 18-12, Golden Gate A edged past Premier C 21-19. South Siders A beat Golden Gate C 21-18. Premier A thumped Navodit 21-14. Morgan fixed the quarterfinal spot as it received a walk over from Xavier International.



In girls´ section, two teams from Prime and Premier advanced to the semifinal of the tournament. Premier A will face Prime A in the semifinal while Prime B faces Prime A in another semifinal.



Golden Peak lifts title


KATHMANDU: Golden Peak School on Tuesday lifted the title of Second Brooklyn Inter School Boys´ Basketball Tournament. Golden Peak registered a hard fought 74-70 win over Teresa Academy. Most Valuable Player awarded Rakesh Shrestha netted 24 points for the winning team. In the third place play off, Wilson Academy defeated Lovely Angels´ 71-43 with 18 points from Sameer Manandhar. With the win, Golden Peak bagged a purse of Rs 10,000 while Teresa bagged Rs 7,000. Wilson Academy received Rs 5,000 as the third position holder. Altogether 22 teams from the valley had participated in the week-long tournament.



ITF takewondo on Thursday

KATHMANDU: Nepal International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) is organizing Seventh General Choi Memorial ITF Taekwondo Championship on Thursday. The event being organized in the memory of ITF founder Choi Hong Hi will feature competitions in five different categories, including single and group pattern, power breaking, special technique, self defense and weight category. Altogether, 176 players including 56 female and 120 male players from 18 districts, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force will compete in the event for 16 gold medals. The expected cost of the event is Rs 350,000 of which National Sports Council has availed Rs 100,000, according to ITF President Kumar Thapa Magar.


Budokaido karate from Saturday

KATHMANDU: Tikabhairav Budokaido Dojo is organizing the Third Nation-wide Tikabhairav Budokaido Men´s Weight Category and Women´s Open Full Contact Karate on Friday and Saturday at Tikabhairav, Lalitpur. Organizing a press meet in the capital on Monday, Mohanraj Silwal, the secretary of the Dojo said 150 players including 40 female and 110 male players from 27 districts will participate in the event. Men will feature in 40 kg, 50 kg, 55 kg and open weight category. Similarly, there will only be open weight category in the female´s section. The opening and the closing ceremony will also feature a cultural show. The expected cost of the event is Rs 568,000.
