Army, Madhyapur start with wins
KATHMANDU: Nepal Army and Madhyapur Sports Group started the Eighth Nationwide Workers Cup Volleyball Tournament in winning notes. Army pulled straight set victory over the host Youth Sports Group Nepal, Bhaktapur in the opening match of the tournament. Army defeated Youth Sports 25-13, 25-5, 25-6 at the Martyrs Memorial Sports Ground, Bhaktapur.
Nepal Army spiker Bhoj Bahadur Thapa was adjudged man-of-the-match. Likewise, Madhyapur toiled hard to beat Kavre District Volleyball Association in the second match of the day. Madhyapur lost the first set 20-25 but claimed the match winning the remaining set 25-11, 26-24, 25-15. Bibek Khambu of Madhyapur received man-of-the-match reward for his stunning spikes. The winner of the tournament will get Rs 50,000 while runner-up will bag Rs 30,000.

KATHMANDU: Nepal Kyokushin Karate Do Association Sub-dojo Sinamangal is organizing the 2nd Sinamangal Inter-school Boys´ and Girls´ Full Contact Karate Championship at Guheshwari School on Saturday. Organizing a press conference in the capital on Wednesday, Sanju Maharjan, coordinator of the championship, informed that the event will feature 130 karatekas from 10 schools of Kathmandu. A total of 50 girls will compete in five weight categories and 70 boys in seven weight categories during the championship. The expected cost of the one-day event is Rs 150,000.
Police, Far-west start with wins
KATHMANDU: Defending champion Nepal Police Club and Far-western Region started with wins in the women´s category of 13th Women´s and 19th Men´s National Kabbadi Championship that kicked off in the capital on Wednesday. Police thrashed Central Region 60-7 and Far-western Region beat Eastern Region 31-23. In the men´s section, holder Central Region defeated Western Region. Earlier, the three-day event, which features six teams each in men´s and women´s sections, was inaugurated by Pashupati Shumshere Rana, the president of Rastriya Prajatantra Party.
Twin victories for Trinity, VS Niketan
KATHMANDU: Trinity and VS Niketan registered double victories on Wednesday in the HISSAN Sports and Extra Curricular Activities Meet under way in the capital. Trinity edged past KMC 43-30 in the first match and defeated Universal 33-22 in another match. Similarly, VS Niketan defeated Times 44-35 and Rehdon 42-23. Premier overcame Caribbean 48-28 in another match of the day.
Neric, Golden Peak in final
KATHMANDU: Neric and Golden Peak advanced into the final of junior boys´ section in the 11th Gyan Niketan Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Wednesday. Neric defeated South Point 43-23 with 17 points from Amrit Basnet. Golden Peak toiled hard to beat host Gyan Niketan 21-19 riding on 14 points from Sanjog Raut. Meanwhile, Gyanodaya and Daffodil set up a final clash in the senior girls´ section. Gyanodaya beat Teresa 29-21 and Daffodil saw off Innovative 25-17. Under the senior boys´ category, Teresa beat Greenland 45-33 and holder HIMS overcame Radiant 48-30.
SEB, New Diamond lift titles
KATHMANDU: Host SEB A and New Diamond A lifted the girls´ and boys´ titles respectively on Wednesday in the Seventh SEB Inter-school Volleyball Tournament being held in the capital. SEB overcame Shree Kamana 25-21, 25-20 in straight sets for the girls´ title while New Diamond A beat its B team 25-15, 25-17 in the boys´ final. Angels´ Heart took home third place honors in both the sections. Amar Singh Thapa of the host and Kripa Adhikari of New Diamond A were declared the best players in the boys´ and girls´ sections respectively.
BST, Angels´ Heart triumph
KATHMANDU: BST and Angels´ Heart won their respective boys´ matches during Kathmandu´s Northern Zone qualifiers for the 2nd U-14 Inter-school National Basketball Championship being held in the capital. BST beat Bagmati 9-6 and Angels´ Heart edged past HHCA 26-25. Similarly, TIA saw off Forward 28-17. In the Western Zone qualifiers, Rara Hill downed RIBS 38-6, Wilson crushed Pushpa Sadan 52-27 and Mount Glory overcame Arniko 22-9. In the Eastern Zone qualifiers, Baba saw off Young Hearts 35-15, Innovative beat Golden Peak 37-20 and Daffodil edged past Manakamana 15-12.
Army, Central Region reach semis
BIRGUNJ: Central Region and Nepal Army entered the semifinals of Second National Hockey Championship registering victories on Wednesday. Central defeated Western Region 4-1 at Adarshanagar Stadium, Birgunj. Rajesh Nath Adhikari scored two goals for Central while captain Harbindar Singh and Anpit Pathan added a goal each. Som Bahadur Thapa scored a consolation goal for Western Region.
Likewise, Army thrashed Eastern Region 4-0 to enter the last four of the tournament. Dipendra Air, Ram Shah, Satyanarayan Chaudhary and Sher Bahadur Rokka scored a goal each for Army.
