Adhikari completes hat-trick
KATHMANDU: Anju Adhikari of Nepal Electricity Authority completed a hat-trick on Friday in the Third Badminton Tournament organized by Public Enterprises Sports Association. Adhikari defeated Shraddha Manandhar of Nepal Telecom in the women´s singles final in two straight sets to win the title for the third time.
In the men´s category, Jung Bahadur Chand of Nepal Airlines Corporation won gold. Chand defeated Navaraj Joshi of SBI Bank Limited in 2-1. In the men´s singles category of executive level, Shiva Nath Pandey of Nepal Bank Limited had a hard fought 2-1 win over Kalyan Singh Thapa of KUKL.
In the women´s doubles, the pair of Sabina Maskey Pradhan and Guddi Karki of Nepal Telecom won gold. In men´s doubles, Purna Bir Bajracharya and Mahesh Basnet´s pair of Nepal Bank won the gold.
Nepal Airlines Corporation lifted the team championship trophy with two golds. Nepal Electricity Authority finished second while Nepal Telecom finished third.
Dhankuta FC off to winning start
DHANKUTA: Dhankuta Football Club started the International Invitational Bhojpur Gold Cup on a winning note on Friday. With a hat-trick from Bardman Rai, Dhankuta defeated defending champion Rastriya Jagriti Yuva Club 5-2 in the inaugural match of the tournament. Rai was adjudged the man-of-the-match for the hat-trick. On Saturday, ANFA Academy, Kathmandu will face Armed Police Force, Jhapa.
Thapa wins ladies title
KATHMANDU: Sushila Thapa won the ladies title of the K2-Mount Everest Friendship Golf Tournament on Friday. Thapa scored 30 points in the tournament played on the stable ford format. Kalpana Limbu remained in the second position with 29 points in the tournament played at the Army Officers´ Golf Course.
Full-contact karate kicks off
POKHARA: First Kaski Kyokushin Full-contact Karate Tournament, the two-day tournament with nation-wide participation of more than 100 players, kicked off in Pokhara on Friday. The players will vie in four different weight categories. The tournament features 55kg, 65 kg and open categories in the male section and only open category in the female section.
On the opening day, Ramesh Giri, Dipesh Thapa, Ram Bahadur Rana, Mahesh Bhujel, Padam Gurung, Sunil Nepali, Naresh Tamang, Amar Bhujel, Bimal Bhujel and Hayendra Magar won their respective matches to advance to the second round in 55kg weight category.
The gold medalists of the tournament will bag Rs 10,000 each while the silver and bronze medalists will receive Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 each respectively.
