SPORTS BRIEFS: NPC, APF to vie for title

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police Club (NPC) and Armed Police Force (APF) Club have set up a final showdown in the Nationwide Workers Cup Volleyball Tournament being held in Bhaktapur. APF edged past Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Center 25-13, 25-14, 25-10 in the first semifinal played at the Martyrs Memorial Sports Ground, Bhaktapur on Sunday. APF´s Khusi Chaudhary was adjudged the man-of-the-match.



Likewise, NPC pulled off a thrilling 25-22, 23-25, 26-24, 25-23 victory over Nepal Army in the second semifinal. Sanjay Aryal of the winning side was adjudged the man-of-the-match. The winner of the tournament will receive Rs 50,000 while the runner-up will get Rs 30,000.



Boys Union held

KATHMANDU: Boys Union Club missed the chance to go top of the table in Martyrs Memorial Red Bull B Division Football League as it was held to a goalless draw by Brigade Boys Club on Sunday at the APF ground in Halchowk, Kathmandu.

The result left Boys Union unchanged in the second position with 11 points, two points behind leader Tusal Youth Club. Brigade Boys climbed one spot to seventh with seven points.

Meanwhile, Birgunj Youth Academy beat Swayambhu 1-0 in another match on Sunday. Chaturdhan Rai scored the winner in the 23rd minute. Birgunj jumped two spots to third with 10 points while Swayambhu dropped one spot to fifth with eight points.



National, Trinity in basketball final

KATHMANDU: National Campus and Trinity have entered the basketball final in the HISSAN Sports and Extra Curricular Activities Meet being held in the capital. In the first match played on Sunday, National defeated Prime College 47-33 riding on 10 points from Ang Chhiring Sherpa. In another match, Trinity ousted WhiteHouse 46-21. Dhan Tamang contributed the highest 16 points for the winning team.



Pushpa Sadan, Wilson qualify for finals

KATHMANDU: Pushpa Sadan and Wilson have qualified for the final rounds of Inter-school U-14 National Basketball Championship from western zone of Kathmandu Valley on Sunday. During the matches played on Sunday, Pushpa Sadan overcame New Zenith 31-22 while Wilson crushed Rara Hill 51-22.



Tamang steers Sherpa into quarters

BARA: Dhiran Tamang scored a brace as Yeti Airlines Himalayan Sherpa Club defeated NIBL Friends Club 2-0 on Sunday to book its berth in the quarterfinals of Magic Moments Fourth Simara Gold Cup Football Tournament being held in Simara, Bara.



Tamang scored in an acute pass from skipper Pukar Gahatraj in the third minute to give Sherpa an early lead. He then scored the second goal during the hour mark to ensure victory for Sherpa. Tamang was adjudged the man-of-the-match.



Friends created as many as half a dozen chances but failed to convert them.



The first quarterfinal will be played between host Nawa Jana Jagriti Club and CMG Club Sankata on Monday.
