SPORTS BRIEFS: NASA, National start with wins

KATHMANDU, Sept 3: NASA and National Campus started the Second Bagmati Inter-college Basketball tournament with win on Saturday in the boy´s category.



NASA defeated CCRC 45-38 with 16 points from Tshiring Gurung. Kebal Gurung´s 16 points guided National for the 68-38 win over Golden Gate ´A´.[break]



In other matches of boy´s section, Kathmandu Valley beat Rose Bud 46-44, Bearnhardt edged past U-2 39-37, Little Angles defeated Lumbini 29-16, WhiteHouse thrashed Golden Gate ´B´ 41-24 and Trinity overcame Pentagon 43-38. In the girl´s section, hosts Bagmati routed United Academy 12-2 as Prekchya Malla scored seven points.


KES, New Summit champions
KATHMANDU: Kathmandu English School (KES) and New Summit lifted the trophy of the Second PABSON Mid-region Basketball Tournament in Boy´s and Girls´ category respectively on Saturday. Kathmandu English beat defending champion Suryodaya 84-50. Subash Bhujel, who received highest scorer trophy, scored 48 points for the win. Rachana Ghimire´s 19 points guided New Summit to the 41-13 win against Kathmandu English. Ghimire was given the highest scorer award on the girls´ section. Roshan Thapa of Suryodaya and Alisha Budathoki of Kathmandu English were adjudged Most Valuable Player of the tournament.



Karki leads Kyokusin Budokai
KATHMANDU: The first annual general assembly of Nepal Kyokusin Budokai Karate Association on Saturday elected a 17-member committee unanimously under the presidency of Narayan Bahadur Karki. Jay Ram Thapa and Jyoti Ram Phuyal are the vice-presidents of the newly elected committee. Rajendra Subedi is the general secretary while Roshan Karki and Ganesh Lal Kachyapati are elected secretary and treasurer respectively.


Madhyapur, Pulchowk victorious
KATHMANDU: Madhyapur Youth Association and Shree Laligurans Pulchowk Sports Club emerged victorious on Saturday in the Martyrs Memorial Red Bull C Division League Football being held at ANFA ground, Satdobato. Madhyapur beat Boys Sports Club 2-0. Sujan Pradhananga and Sasnarnanda Palanchowke netted one each in the 18th and 42nd minute respectively. Similarly, Laligurans Pulchowk edged past Mahabir Club 2-1.



Bikash Rai and Prabhat Adhikari scored one each for Pulchowk in the 57th and 90th minute respectively. Anil Kumar Gurung netted for Mahabir in the 75th minute. In the super league round of C division football held at Chyasal ground, Shree Kumari Club and Satdobato Youth Club emerged victorious. Shree Kumari defeated Khumaltar Club 1-0 with a lone goal from Sabal Baniya in the 55th minute. Similarly, Satdobato beat Samaj Kalyan Khelkud Kendra 4-1. Sabin KC completed hat-trick for Satdoabato while Dhiraj Tamang added another. Rajesh Sapkota hit back the consolation for Samaj Kalyan.
