SPORTS BRIEFS:Judo kata seminar begins

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): International JUA education, coaching and kata seminar kicked off in the capital on Sunday organized by Nepal Judo Association (NJA) under the aegis of Judo Union of Asia. This is the first time that Nepal is conducting international kata seminar.

According to NJA President Deepak Harsha Bajracharya about 50 coaches are participating in the seminar including 30 from Nepal, three each from Singapore and Bangladesh, two each from Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Sri Lanka and Malaysia and one from Philippines.

The seminar will be undertaken under inspection of Muhammad Derickson while Mikihiru and Sinichiro Sato of Japan will train the coaches. National Sports Council Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama inaugurated the seminar.



Host Bajra into quarterfinal

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Host Bajra International College on Sundary advanced into the quarterfinal under college boy´s section during the First Inter-school and College (+ 2) Basketball Tournament being held in the capital. Bajra defeated Kathmandu United 23-16 to emerge the winner of group B and secure quarterfinal spot. Krishna Shahi netted 17 points for the winning side. In the same category, VS Niketan and Rosebud emerged victorious. VS edged past Namgyal 38-22 with 15 points from Rohit Singh. Rosebud thrashed HIMS 40-7. Bijen Maharjan netted 10 points for the winning team. Meanwhile, Gyan Niketan enjoyed walkover from Classing. Under round robin matches of school girl´s section, Lord Buddha toiled hard to beat South Point 16-15. Binu Shrestha contributed nine points for Lord Buddha. East Pole saw off Young Heart 17-14 riding on eight points of Pema Sherpa.





Gyan Bhairav, Boys Sports triumph

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Gyan Bhairav Club and Boys Sports Club won their respective matches on Sunday in the Red Bull C Division Football League being held at the Chyasal ground, Kathmandu. Gyan Bhariav thumped Sri Bhagwati Club 5-1. Raju Khadka netted twice for Gyan Bhairav while Arjun Chhetir, Saugat Khanal and Bijaya Jung Karki were also on target. Manoj Lama hit the consolation for Sri Bhagwati. In another match, Yaman Maharjan scored in either half in Boys Sports 2-1 win over Khalibari Football Club. Om Gurung scored for Khalibari. In another match, Jhamsikhel Youth Club and Nawajyoti Youth Club shared points playing 1-1 draw. Bal Bahadur Thing put Jhamsikhel ahead but Sunil Subedi hit back the equalizer for Nawajyoti.
