SPORTS BRIEFS: Donations to cricket institutions

KATHMANDU, Sept 22: The documentary making team of Beyond the Boundary and A New Horizon on Thursday donated the amount raised through charity show of those documentaries to two different institutions.



The documentary team donated Rs 55,000 out of total Rs 65,000 raised through the charity show of those documentaries held on July 23 at Nepal Tourism Board hall.[break]



 While Rs 45,000 was handed over to Saryu Prasad Serchan, the president of Nepal National Deaf Cricket Association, Cricket Players´ Welfare Fund received Rs 10,000. "Remaining 10,000 was used for paying off administrative expenses," said Surya Thapaliya, the director and the producer of the documentaries. The documentary Beyond The Boundary is based on cricketers Sarad Vesawakar and Rahul Bishwakarma and A New Horizon is based on women cricketer Nary Thapa.

Real Marathon on Saturday
KATHMANDU: The fifth edition of Real Kathmandu Marathon will be held on Saturday. The event will feature race under five different types of race including marathon, half-marathon, five-km open race, five-km school race and three-km wheelchair in both men´s and women´s category, stated a press release issued by Rabindra Thapa, the coordinator of the marathon. The events carry equal cash prizes to the winners of both men´s and women´s section.



There is a provision of cash prizes for the top ten runners in marathon while only top three players of other categories will be awarded with cash. The top three runners of marathon will bag a purse of Rs 100,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively. Similarly, top three finishers of half marathon will bag Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. Meanwhile, the organizer of marathon and Real Juice signed MoU of title sponsorship, states the press release.



Nanda on sole lead
KATHMANDU: Trailokya Nanda of India took the sole lead on Thursday after the completion of seventh round in the Dhrubatara Cup Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament being held at Damak in Jhapa. Nanda rated 2099 accumulated 6.5 points. In the seventh round, Nanda defeated former national champion Nabin Tandukar and in sixth he beat Niraj Niroula of the hosts club.



Surbir Lama climbed to the second spot with 5.5 points after he defeated Prakash Nepal and Niranjan Prajapati on sixth and seventh round respectively. Krishna Thapa and Rakesh Raunier also have 5.5 points in their kitty. Veteran Sitaram Agrawal, Nabin Tandukar, Niraj Niroula, Rajan Puri, Niranjan Prajapati, Dharam Lama and Raju Subedi have scored equal five points each.



Sainik Awasiya defends the title
DHARAN: Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya defended the title of The Eighth Lalit Ambar Depo Running Cup Football Tournament on Thursday. Sainik Awasiya defeated Delhi Public School 1-0 in the final to clinch the title for record fourth time. Nisan Gurung´s goal for Sainik Awasiya in the 17th minute of the second half turned to be the decider. In the competitive match, both Delhi Public and Sainik Awasiya made frequent attempts for goal. Delhi Public´s goalkeeper Srayas Sona was declared man of the match for his heroic saves. The winner received trophy and cash prize of Rs 5,000 and the runner up got Rs 3,000 and trophy. Altogether 15 schools participated in the tournament.
