Neroj Shrestha of the Army School was adjudged man-of-the-match. Shrestha had scored 22 runs and taken two wickets in the match. Sudil Singh of Ryan International was the highest scorer with 32 runs. Altogether seven teams, four from Nepal and three from India, had participated in the Tournament organized by Voice of Children.
Gorkha Boys Club clinches title
BUTWAL: Gorkha Boys Club lifted the title of Madan Bhandari Gold Cup Football Tournament here on Saturday defeating Butwal United in sudden death. Sushil KC scored for Gorkha Boys as Jacob Osdijola’s spot kick was saved by Gorkha Boys’ keeper Rajan Nagarkoti. With the win Gorkha Boys bagged a purse of Rs 165,000. Butwal United had to remain satisfied with just Rs 100,000. The match was taken to Sudden Death as the regulation time ended in 2-2 and the tie breaker ended in 3-3. Ashim Jung Karki of Gorkha Boys received the best player of the tournament award while Nagarkoti received best goalie award. Afeez Ole of Butwal received the award for highest scorer.
Eastern regional League in Jhapa
JHAPA: The Eastern Regional A Division League of All Nepal Football Associations will kick off in Jhapa from Monday. ANFA has slated District League winners of five A Division districts, namely Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Parsa and Chitwan in its Eastern Regional League. The winner and runner-up teams of the Regional League will secure berths in the Super League, where they will meet the top two teams of another Regional League that is scheduled to be held in Hetauda. Makawanpur, Kaski, Rupandehi, Banke and Kailali are vying in Hetauda. The top two teams of the Super League will qualify for the upcoming Red Bull National League, where they will meet top eight teams of the Martyrs Memorial A Division League.
Nepal Blue wins practice match
KATHMANDU: Nepal Blue team, led by Gyanendra Malla, defeated Nepal Red, led by Paras Khadka, by four wickets in a practice match played at the TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur on Saturday. Players, who are undergoing closed camp training for the upcoming ACC Twenty20 Cricket Tournament, have been playing practice matches in the closed camp. In the match on Saturday, Nepal Red put up 107 runs losing eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Subash Khakurel scored 32 runs of 43 balls. Rahul Vishwokarma and Basant Regmi took two wickets each for Nepal Blue. Nepal Blue met the target in 19.2 overs losing six wickets. Gyanendra Malla scored 23 runs off 23 balls. Shakti Gauchan took three wickets for Nepal Red.
PM Bhattarai honored with ninth dan
KATHMANDU: National Taekwondo Union (NTU) conferred honorary ninth dan in taekwondo on Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai on Saturday. Taekwondo’s Chief Grand Master Jay Kay Shin of South Korea handed over the certificate and letter of appreciation to the prime minister’s wife Hisila Yami amidst a function at the National Sports Council (NSC), Tripureshwar. Constituent Assembly member Yami said that Dr Bhattarai couldn’t attend the function due to his busy work schedule. The NTU also conferred honorary dan certificates on Youth and Sports Minister Kamala Roka (eighth dan), NSC Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama (seventh dan) and Constituent Assembly member Chandra Bahadur Thapa (fifth dan).
Inter-club basketball kicks off in Dharan
DHARAN: Horizon Club ‘A’ defeated Dharan Hariyali 66-46 in the opening match of the Inter-club Open Basketball Tournament in Dharan on Saturday. Barula Club and Jute Bikash Club earned walkovers. Bikke Rai, president of the organizing committee, said that their aim is to set up a welfare fund for players with the excess amount saved after tournament.
