SPORTS BRIEFS: APF into final

JHAPA, March 14: Armed Police Force (APF) Club have fixed their final spot after 135-run win over Jamshedpur XI on Monday in the Fourth Binesh Verma Memorial One Day Cricket Tournament being held at Bhadrapur, Jhapa.



Winning the toss, APF scored 190 runs losing six wickets in regular 40 overs. [break]



Sonam Gautam punished Jamshedpur bowlers as he scored 39 runs off 23 balls, including five boundaries. Shakti Gauchan scored 34 runs in 64 balls with a four. Subash Pandey of Jamshedpur took two wickets while Shashi Sekhar, Chandan Sharma and Gaurav Kumar took a wicket each. APF restricted Jamshedpur at 55 runs in 19.4 overs. Amrit Bhattarai, Mehboob Aalam and Sanjam Regmi took three wickets each for APF. Kaushal Singh was highest scorer for Jamshedpur with 26 runs. APF will meet Jhapa XI in the final match on Wednesday.


Balaju felicitate medalists


KATHMANDU: Balaju Karate-Do Academy on Monday honored the medalists of the Fourth SMA Cup International Karate Championship held on March 4-6 in Malaysia. The four medalists were awarded with letter of appreciation. Karate´s chief coach Dhurba Bikram Malla handed over the letter of appreciation to Pavitra Chauchan, Anu Adhikari, Anupama Magar and Sushma Lama amidst a function in the capital. Chauchan had won bronze in the U-61 kg weight category while the others had won bronze in the team Kumute. Altogether 21 teams from 15 countries had participated in the championship.



Khalibari start with win


KATHMANDU: Khalibari Football Club of Thasikhel, Lalitpur started their qualifiers campaign of Martyrs Memorial C Division League Football Tournament with a win at the ANFA ground on Monday. Khalibari defeated Amar Brothers Club of Tokha 4-2 in a tiebreaker as the regular time finished with a goalless draw. Subash Gurung, Rajesh Gurung, Sailen Thapa and Himsail GC converted for Khalibari while for Amar Brothers only Dinesh Dangol A and Bivek Shrestha could get the target. In another match, BBC Club of Banepa had a hard fought 1-0 win over Club Pepsi, Pesi Cola. Sajit Shrestha scored the lone goal in the 52nd minute.



Classic, Triton into final


KATHMANDU: The hosts Classic College and Triton International confirmed their places in the final of the Spice Classic T20 Inter-college Cricket Tournament winning their respective matches on Monday.



Classic beat TU by an overwhelming 140 runs while Triton defeated Pentagon by 14 runs in the match played at the TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.



With a century from Binod Bhandari, Classic posted a massive 198 runs in 20 overs losing three wickets. Bhandari struck 10 boundaries and seven sixes for his 107 runs off just 61 balls. Pramod Basnet took two wickets in the innings.



Classic bowled TU out for 58 runs in 12.1 overs. Rahul Pratap Singh took three wickets while Bhuvan Karki, Rahul Bishwakarma and Naresh Budhayer bagged two wickets each. Bhandari was adjudged man-of-the-match for his brilliant century.



In another match, Triton won the toss and were bundled out for 124 runs in 18.5 overs. Manjeet Shrestha scored 39 runs off 26 balls. Binod Chhetri, Dinesh Agri, Bikram Sob and Keshav Pant took two wickets each for Pentagon.



With tight bowling from Triton, Pentagon were bowled out for 110 runs in 19.5 overs. Shakti Bhandari scored 47 runs off 43 balls. Santosh Baral of Triton took three wickets while Manjeet Shrestha, Prasanna Shakya and Rajesh Pulami took two wickets each.


APF beat Friends


SINDHUPALCHOWK: Armed Police Force (APF) defeated Friends Club 2-1 to reach the semifinals of the Fourth San Miguel Sindhu Bhote Koshi Knockout Football Tournament on Monday. In the match held at Lamosanghu´s Basantapur ground, Jiwan Sinkeman gave a lead to APF in the 24th minute utilizing a cross of Santosh Shrestha. Nirak Shrestha added another goal in the 54th minute. Friends´ Prakash Budhathoki hit a consolation goal in the 70th minute. Jiwan Sinkeman was declared man-of-the-match.



Dhrubatara into semis


ITAHARI: Dhrubatara Sporting Club of Damak, Jhapa on Monday advanced into the semifinal of Fifth Dan Bahadur Fuyal Memorial Gold Cup Football Tournament under way at Itahari. Dhrubatara beat Triyuga Sporting Club of Saptari 2-1 in the competitive match. Prabesh Katuwal and Arun Shrestha scored one each for Dhrubatara. Sanjog Limbu pulled one back for Saptari. Scorer Katuwal of the winning side was declared man-of-the-match.
