South Siders in last four
South Siders secured a semifinal berth under men´s section on Tuesday in the Kirtipur Mahotsav Cup Open Women´s and Men´s Basketball Tournament being held at Kirtipur Basketball Court. South Siders eased past Whitefield 87-54 to become the last team to secure a place in the last four. Rishi Robertson and Sanjay Byanjankar contributed 20 points each for the winning side. Golden Gate, NASA and Whitehouse have already made it to the semifinals. Likewise, Prime and Whitehouse won their respective women´s round robin league matches. Whitehouse saw off Xavier International 42-32 riding on 16 points of Maya Syangtan. Prime had a thumping 65-8 win over Rara Hill.
Cricket kits distributed
BARDIYA: Citizen Bank Private Limited handed over sports kits to Cricket Association of Bardiya on Tuesday. The bank gave two cricket bats, 20 t-shirts and caps each. Ganesh Raj Pokharel, the administrative officer of the bank, said they have distributed the kits after learning about the Mid-western Regional Cricket Tournament which is going to be held in the near future.
Pentagon in semis
DHANGADHI: Pentagon College advanced into the semifinals with a four-wicket win over Sunrise College of Mahendranagar on Tuesday in the Devotee SPA CUP National Inter-college T20 Cricket Tournament being held in Dhangadhi. Electing to bat first, Sunrise College accumulated 138 runs losing all wickets in the 20-over match. Raghubir Sunuwar contributed 26 runs for Sunrise. Santosh Bhatta of Pentagon claimed four wickets. Pentagon achieved the target in 19 overs with four wickets in hand. Padam KC scored 36 runs and Niraj Chand made 24. Mahesh Shah hauled four wickets of Pentagon. In another match of the day, Rajshree College, Janakpur, secured quarterfinal berth defeating Kailali Multiple College by seven wickets.
Concern over inadequate infrastructure
KATHMANDU: The locals of Far-western Development Region have expressed serious concern over inadequate infrastructures for organizing the Sixth National Games scheduled to be held from March 5-12 in Dhangadhi and Mahendranagar. In an interaction organized by Far-western Regional Sports Development Committee (FWRSD) and Far-western Regional Sports Concern Forum, the speakers stressed on the need to build infrastructure and complained about the working style of the National Sports Council and the government for not allocating enough budget. Speaking at the program, president of FWRSD Umesh Shrestha warned they will not even hesitate to call for a strike if the event shifted to other places due to the lack of budget and infrastructure.
