Speaker, lawmakers registered in new electoral roll

KATHMANDU, June 15: The Election Commission (EC) officials on Wednesday registered Speaker Subas Nembang, Deputy Speaker Purna Kumari Subedi and 90 lawmakers in the new electoral roll with their photograph and biometrics.



The EC officials registered lawmakers´ personal details at the Constituent Assembly building in New Baneshwar. [break]



Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal could not attend the program due to health problems. ´



´We will register him in the electoral roll on Thursday,´´ EC Spokesperson Sharada Prasad Trital told Republica.



The EC began its campaign to register those residing outside their original places in the new electoral roll from Wednesday.



EC has already completed voters´  registration with photograph and biometrics in 25 districts. ´´Some 6.5 million voters have been registered in the new electoral roll to date,´´ Trital added.
