Speaker, Deputy Speaker resign

KATHMANDU, Oct 14: Speaker Subas Nembang has resigned from his post on Thursday to facilitate election of new speaker as per the constitutional provision.

Nembang handed over his resignation to Deputy Speaker Onsari Gharti.

The meeting of parliament scheduled for today itself will begin process to select new speaker and deputy speaker.

“Speaker Nembang put in the paper after concluding that it is inappropriate to occupy the post as the timetable for election of speaker has been made public,” parliament joint-spokesperson Sudarshan Kuinkel told Republica.

In the meantime, Deputy-speaker Gharti submitted her resignation to Speaker Nembang as per the parliament regulations.

Parliament Secretariat plans to register nominations for speaker and deputy speaker on Thursday and hold election on Friday.
