´Earlier the snowfall occurred here on January, 2006´, said horticulture technician Hom Bahadur Thapa, adding the area this time has witnessed snow of one-and-a-half feet.

Apple production had suffered a lot due to no snowfall for long time, said another technician Harka Bahadur Bam, expressing hope, ´This year apple produce will go up as the snow occurred here is good enough for apple farming´.

According to the statistics, the productivity of apple in the Satbanj-based Centre, established in 2019 BS, was in the range of 35 to 40 tons in the formative years. But now the production has decreased to three tons with no occurrence of snowfall, informed Horticulture Development Officer, Laxmi Dutta Pandey.

Snowfall has taken place in the high-altitude area since Sunday evening and the land remained damp with incessant rain.

Various areas including Shreebhawar, Sigas, Gufakedar, Dhaulkandakot and Gwallek in Baitadi have turned to be whitish with heavy snowfall here, said locals.

Normal life across the mountainous districts of far-western region has been affected due to torrential rain followed by snowfall.

Likewise, the transportation service in Dadeldhura, Baitadi, Darchula, Bajhang, Achham and Doti has been hit hard since early this morning with the pile-up of snow on Gaira-Sahukharka road section along the Bhimdutta highway.

In the similar vein, the Anarkholi-Khodpe road section along the Dasharath Chand highway has also witnessed grinding halt of vehicular movement owing to snowfall.
