RAJBIRAJ, Jan 22: Nepali Congress (NC) Central Working Committee member Dr Shekhar Koirala has said political leaders must learn a lesson from the “unfortunate” incident in which CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal was slapped in Itahari.

Talking to media persons in Saptari, Dr Koirala said the incident shows growing hatred of people toward political leaders. “This is just a sign of growing frustration among the people toward political leaders. Leaders of other political parties must also learn a lesson from this incident,” he said.

Dr Koirala said that the country could get a new government in the next few days if political parties took the slap on Khanal´s face seriously. President Dr Ram Baran Yadav on Friday has given political parties five more days to form a consensus government. He said that the Maoist should not be allowed to head the government simply because their combatants have been handed over to the Special Committee.

Dr Koirala, however, said NC was ready to accept Maoist leadership in the government if the latter brings concrete proposal to take ensure promulgation of new constitution.

He said that it would be a treachery against people if political parties failed to promulgate the new constitution on time.
