ACHHAM, Aug 31: The prolonging agitations and banda in Kailali has begun to show severe effects in several parts of Achham district.

Shopkeepers and businesspersons in Achham are worried about their depleting stocks. “Essential items such as food products and medicines are now in short supply. Building materials, clothes and various other commercial items are also running out,” said Devraj Upadhyay, a businessperson from Mangalsain, Achham. “Normal life was already paralyzed. If bandas do not end, things will get tougher,” he added.

People in the region have not been able to shake off the shock resulting from the clash in Kailali which took life of nine security personnel.

After the government imposed curfew in Kailali following the incident, few vehicles carrying goods have reached Achham and other areas.

“The situation is already tensed. Lack of essential goods in the market will increase people's hardships,” said Upadyay.

Locals have now started to call for meaningful dialogues for finding solutions to the issue of Tharuhat and undivided far west.
