KATHMANDU, Jan 12: Senior Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has held discussions with Central Working Committee (CWC) members, district party presidents and senior advocates close to him, reiterating his commitment to keeping the party united.
During the meeting held on Monday at his liaison office in Bishalnagar, Dr. Koirala said he remains fully committed to leading the party in a united direction and is in continuous dialogue with all factions to prevent a split. He said he is making every possible effort to preserve party unity, even at personal cost.

“I am in constant talks with the party president, the acting president and the general secretaries, making it clear that the party must not be allowed to split under any circumstances,” Koirala said. “Rest assured, the party will not split. You should also work toward that end. There is no reason to be discouraged.”
Legal experts present at the discussion argued that, under the NC statute, only the CWC has the authority to convene a Special General Convention. They maintained that the convention called by the general secretaries lacks legal validity and cannot make decisions related to leadership change.
Participants at the meeting urged Dr. Koirala to continue facilitating dialogue between both sides and play a leading role in safeguarding party unity.
Those present included NC Vice President Dhanraj Gurung, Deputy General Secretaries Badri Pandey and Jiban Pariyar, central committee members Bal Bahadur KC and Minendra Rijal, and senior advocates Sher Bahadur KC, Yogendra Adhikari, and Upendra Keshari Neupane, among others.
