KATHMANDU, April 4: The Sher Bahadur Deuba-led faction in the Nepali Congress (NC) has demanded that the party establishment should settle all disputes including those related to the party´s sister organizations before the party joins the government.

A meeting of pro-Deuba lawmakers at Singha Durbar on Friday also demanded that the party president call a meeting of the central working committee (CWC) to get his April 3 decision to send the party into the government endorsed.[break]

Deuba faction protesting the the formation of 101-member ad hoc committee of Nepal Students´ Union has been boycotting the CWC meeting . Deuba dissatisfied over the selection of members in the ad hoc committee had even resigned from the committee. However party president Sushil Koirala did not accept the resignation.

Talking to Republica, Gopal Man Shrestha, a leader close to Deuba, said first thing the establishment faction needs to do is create atmosphere for the Deuba faction to attend the CWC meeting. “We concur with the establishment faction over national politics in general and constitution writing in particular but we also have differences."

Shrestha also demanded that the party establishment faction resume the process of forming parliamentary party board. “The parliamentary party board needs to be given full shape because the board is responsible for choosing party leaders to be sent to the government,” he added.

“And the party should join the government only after settling internal rows,” he said.

Nearly three dozens Deuba-aligned lawmakers including Bimalendra Nidhi, Ramesh Rijal, Prakash Sharan Mahat, Bal Krishna Khand, Ajaya Dwibedi and Dina Upadhyaya Sharma were present at the meeting. While briefing the meeting about the five-point agreement reached late Thursday night, Deuba had sought suggestions from the party lawmakers on how should they move ahead in the face of continuing disputes with the establishment faction.

The meeting was held at the office of CA Committee on Determining Forms of Legislative Bodies at Singha Durbar. The next meeting of the faction is scheduled for 10 am at Saturday in the same place.
