KATHMANDU, March 23: The Federal Parliament Secretariat is preparing for the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected members of the House of Representatives, while also finalizing arrangements in the under-construction new Parliament building.
The oath ceremony is scheduled for March 26 at 2 PM, with lawmakers requested to be present at least two hours earlier in formal or traditional attire. Senior-most member Arjun Narsingh KC, 78, will first take the oath before the President on March 25 and subsequently administer the oath to other members.
As per constitutional provisions, lawmakers must take the oath before participating in parliamentary proceedings. Following the ceremony, members will be provided with official materials, including the Constitution, parliamentary regulations, and service-related documents.
Former MPs yet to return their 'insignia'
According to Secretariat spokesperson Ekaram Giri, preparations are underway to hold the oath ceremony and initial parliamentary meetings at the multipurpose hall of the new Parliament building in Singha Durbar. While physical infrastructure inside the hall is largely complete, final technical and security arrangements are ongoing.
The Secretariat has also reorganized office spaces for parliamentary parties based on their new strength following the March 5 elections. Temporary arrangements have been made within the Secretariat premises, with plans to shift all party offices into the new building once construction is complete.
Notably, the new Parliament building will provide separate chambers for each lawmaker, marking a significant upgrade in facilities.
