DHANKUTA, April 30: Almost all Village Development Committee (VDC) secretaries in Dhankuta have thronged the district headquarters to evade Maoist extortion drive.

The Maoists have sought at least Rs 50,000 from each VDC secretary to support what they call a “decisive struggle”.

The VDC secretaries on Friday submitted a memorandum to Chief District Officer (CDO) of Dhankuta.

According to Babu Ram Dhungana, secretary of Mare Katahare VDC, they decided to flee their VDCs after the Maoists warned them of attack for refusing to pay donations.
