KATHMANDU, July 27: UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said the word 'secularism' in the draft constitution might be replaced by a neutral word.

He said leaders from major political parties are considering the matter as a large section of people across the country expressed their objected to the word secularism in the draft constitution.

"People didn't like the word 'secularism'. So we are discussing to replace it with another word acceptable to all," Dahal told reporters at his residence on Monday morning. He further said that his party still stands for a directly elected executive head.

"Our party still stands for directly-elected executive," he said. He, however, made it clear that the party would not stick to its position as it may cause deadlock in the constitution making process.

He further said that the new constitution would set a threshold for seats under proportional representation electoral system and that they would change the provision relating to election of ward chairman. According to him, the leaders have decided to directly elect ward chairmen.

Dahal also said that some of the ambiguous provisions relating to citizenship will be made clearer.
