KATHMANDU, April 13: The Supreme Court (SC) is likely to issue a verdict on Tuesday on a writ petition filed against President Dr Ram Baran Yadav´s move to reinstate then Army Chief Rookmangud Katawal whom then Maoists-led government had decided to sack.

Following nearly five-month hearing, the SC has scheduled April 13 to issue a verdict on the case. A division bench of justices Damodar Prasad Sharma and Rajendra Koirala have been hearing the case. [break]

"Since the bench has already fixed the date for a verdict, I can say that the bench is likely to come up with the final decision," said SC Assistant Spokesperson Hemanta Rawal. He, however, said he cannot confirm whether the bench will issue the final verdict on Tuesday.

The petition was filed in the SC after the president countermanded then prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal´s decision to sack Katawal through a split cabinet decision which led to the fall of the Maoists-led government.

While some 40 lawyers pleaded on behalf of the president, 10 on behalf of the petitioners.
