KATHMANDU, Jan 10: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday stayed the government decision to relocate the statue of King Tribhuvan from Sahid Gate to Narayanhiti Palace Museum. A single bench of SC Justice Sushila Karki took a decision to this effect.

The cabinet had decided to remove the statue of the late king from Shahid Gate. [break]

"The decision to move the statue does not respect public sentiment," reads the order, adding, "The statue is considered cultural heritage and such heritage cannot be moved, thereby undermining the sentiments of the people."

Shahid Gate has a bust of King Tribhuvan above the busts of the four martyrs -- Shukraraj Shastri, Dasharath Chand, Dharma Bhakta Mathema and Gangalal Shrestha.
