Twin wins for Trijyoti, TIA
Trijyoti Higher Secondary School and Thungram International Academy (TIA) registered double victories in the opening day of the First Nava Jeewan Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Thursday.
Trijyoti defeated the host Nava Jeewan in both boys´ and girls´ categories at their home court in Samakhushi.
Anil Pariyar scored nine points for Trijyoti as it defeated Nava Jeewan ´B´ 18-13 in the opener of the boys´ category.
Likewise, TIA beat Forward Academy 30-19 in another match with the help of 22 points from Abhishek Gurung.
In another match, North Point defeated Arunodaya 26-18. In the girls´ category, TIA outplayed HHCA 15-8 as Prassidhi Hamal scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, the host bowed out by a narrow margin of 14-12 to Trijyoti. Roshni Rayamajhi scored 12 points for Manjari School in another match to hammer Abhiyan Public School 24-2.
Niraula takes lead
Niraj Niraula is leading the Salhakar Memorial National Open Chess Tournament with six points after the completion of the seventh round on Thursday.
Niraula defeated Hari Chandra Chaulagain in the sixth round and Rajaram Duwal in the seventh round to jump two spots to the top position.
Ganesh Man Duwal is hard on the heels of Niraula with 5.5 points. He defeated Sanjay Maharjan and FIDE Master Manish Hamal in the sixth and seventh round respectively. Hamal, Chaulagain and Prakash Nepal are jointly third with 5 points.
