CURRENCY
Nepali rupee lost 47 paisa against the greenback over the week. Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central monetary authority, opened currency trading on Sunday with exchange rate of US dollar fixed at Rs 98.23. Rupee shed 11 paisa against US dollar on Monday to close at 98.34. The local currency lost another 21 paisa on Tuesday to settle at 98.55 after the Indian currency weakened against US dollar. [break]
On Wednesday too, rupee dropped 36 paisa to close the trading at 98.91. However, rupee gained 19 paisa against US dollar on Thursday to close at Rs 98.72 after Indian currency gained against the greenback. The local currency gained another 2 paisa on Friday - the last trading day of the week - to close at 98.70.
The Indian currency fell on dollar buying by custodial banks ahead of the Reserve Bank of India´s review on Tuesday, Reuters reported on Friday.
The local currency also lost Rs 1.67 against Euro and 63 paisa against British Pound this week. On Friday, Euro was exchanged at Rs 136.10 while British Pound was valued Rs 159.66.
BULLION
Gold glittered this week as it became dearer by Rs 1,115 per 10 grams. Bullion trading opened this week with gold priced at Rs 47,410 per 10 grams on Sunday. On Monday, gold price went up by Rs 175 per 10 grams to close the day´s trading at Rs 47,585 per 10 grams. Though gold price remained stable on Tuesday, it rallied on Wednesday gaining Rs 515 per 10 grams to close at Rs 48,100 per 10 grams.
The price remained unchanged on Thursday. It, however, went up by Rs 425 per 10 grams on Friday - the last trading day of the week -- to close at Rs 48,525 per 10 grams.
Silver also became expensive this week by Rs 25.5 per 10 grams. On Friday, silver was traded at Rs 814.50 per 10 grams.
