Rupak, who turned pro from this event, registered a card of five-over 77 on the final day for a total of one-over 289 that gave him a two-stroke victory over Purna Sharma, the teaching pro from Dubai who arrived in Kathmandu on the eve of the tournament. While Rupak earned Rs 72,000, Purna bagged Rs 46,000. [break]
“I am happy to win the trophy and I am happier that I was able to win the title in the first tournament as a pro,” said Rupak.
Deepak Neupane, who followed Rupak by seven strokes going into the final round, slipped to third with a score of 295 and earned Rs 36,000. Rupak´s elder brother and defending champion Deepak Acharya and Rajan Thapa were tied for fourth at 298 earning Rs 27,000 apiece.
Ram Thapa finished sixth at 299 that earned him Rs 19,000, while Ramesh Nagarkoti came seventh with a score of 300 earning Rs 16,000. First-round leader Mani Rai was eighth at 301 that won him Rs 14,500, whereas Surya Sharma and Sanjay Lama earned Rs 12,250 each after finishing joint ninth at 303.
Ramesh Adhikari won the amateur section trophy with a total score of 304 after a final round score of 76, while Samundra Giri came second at 306. Overnight leader Tashi Tsering finished third with a score of 309.
Vikram Singh, GM of Gokarna Foret Resorts, and Ishwar Gautam, Brand Manager at Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd, and NPGA Advisor Ghana Shyam Thapa gave away prizes to the winners of the seventh and final event of the Surya Nepal Tour 2009-10. The 2010-11 season will begin with the Surya Nepal Masters from April 20 at the Gokarna Golf Club.
