ILAM, July 25: The blacktop over 12-km Nepaltar-Mangalbare road section in Ilam district, which was completed at a cost of Rs 110 million barely three months ago, has started to peel off. The road links different parts of Ilam with Mangalbare, a business hub.

Both the contractor and the government are responsible for the shoddy construction work, according to Matrika Ghimire, president of Mangalbare Chamber of Commerce and Industries.Cracks and holes have begun to surface on the newly constructed road section just three months after its completion.

Surya Construction Company, the contractor hired to build the road by the government, had claimed Rs 110 million for the construction work.

The blacktopping of the Nepaltar-Mangalbare road had brought cheers among the locals. But their happiness didn't last long.

According to the locals, the road section is now in a sorry state.

Chief of Eastern Division Road Office, Shiv Dahal, admitted the sub-standard construction works. "We'll repair the damage as early as possible," said he.

The discussion with locals and contractors is underway for the repair work, Dahal informed.
