Musalman was shot in his forehead while he was having tea at a local shop in Mainabagar. According to the police, Musalman died while being taken to Lumbini Zonal Hospital.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants fled the scene after looting his mobile set and purse.
His spouse Nazama Khatun, who was with him during the incident, had contested CA election from Constituency No 3 of Kapilvastu on behalf of RPP.
Musalman had brifely joined UCPN (Maoist) in the past.
