CHITWAN, Sept 5: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Pashupati Sumsher Rana said on Wednesday that he is against reinstating monarchy in the country.

Speaking to media persons here in the district, Rana reiterated that although his party is initiating merger with Rastriya Prajatanta Party Nepal, which is a pro-royalist party, RJP is against the idea of restoring the former king to the throne. [break]

"We have taken a stance that the revival of monarchy would not be discussed during unification talks with RPP-N," Rana said, adding, "I haven’t had the chance to talk with Kamal Thapa (the RPP-N chairman)as of now."

Rana also conceded that he was aware about the issue of revival of monarchy surfacing during ongoing party unification talks but added that such discussion about monarchy should be stopped immediately.

He underlined that the top leaders should take opinions of all in relation to exploring ways to end the current political stalemate, and expressed his opinion that going for fresh elections would be the best option for now to diffuse the existing crisis.
