According to wholesale vendors, big tomato, small tomato, carrot, French bean, local cauliflower, green soybean, smooth gourd, round brinjal, spinach leaf and mustard leaf have seen a fall in price with supplies augmenting in recent days. [break]
Price of green garlic, however, rose in the capital due to declining supply coupled with rising price in India - the source country. Also, price of the leaf-vegetables is constant in the wholesale market over the period.
Kalimati Fruits and Vegetables Market Development Board (KFVMDB) said the price of some seasonal vegetables have tumbled amid abundant supply.
Geeta Parsad Acharya, a wholesaler at the Kalimati market, said sufficient supply and high production of seasonal vegetables are the major reasons behind the fall in prices. “Even the price of vegetables that are high in demand has fallen slightly because of proper supply this season,” said Acharya.
The wholesale price of big tomato dropped to Rs 27 from Rs 36 per kg whereas price of small tomato declined to Rs 31 from Rs 38per kg.
Similarly, price of white potato declined to Rs 14 from Rs 16 per kg, and price of cauli local to Rs 30 from Rs 38 per kg over the week. Likewise, price of pointed gourd reached Rs 29 from Rs 31 per kg and bottle gourd Rs 30 from Rs 36 per kg.
Supply volume rose to 500 tons from average 350 tons in the Kalimati market over the week.
