Rimal, Koju win open race

KATHMANDU, July 15: Departmental teams dominated the open category race organized by the National Sports Council (NSC) on the occasion of Sports Day on Friday in both men´s (10 km) and women´s (5 km) categories.



Hari Kumar Rimal of Nepal Army clinched gold in the men´s 10 km race with a timing of 36 minutes 54 seconds. Rajan Khatri and Raj Kumar Bista claimed silver and bronze respectively.



In the women´s category, Kanchi Maya Koju of Armed Police Force finished the 5 km open race in 19 minutes 46 seconds to finish first. Brinda Shrestha and Krishneshwari Sintakala trailed behind to take the second and third place respectively. [break]



The winners in both the categories received Rs 15,000 each while the runners-up and third position holders received Rs 10,000 and Rs 7,000 respectively.



Meanwhile, NSC member Number Sherpa won the 400m race held among the NSC officials. Among the NSC employees, Renuka Devi Sitaula won gold in the women´s 2 km race. Badminton chief coach Uday Kumar Shrestha won the 3 km race in the above 40 years category.
