Right activists demand Dfid report

KATHMANDU, Aug. 23: Right activists belonging to Dalit, women, Madhesi, Muslim and indigenous nationalities´ communities are increasing pressure to make public a report entitled ´Status of Social Inclusiveness in Nepal´ jointly prepared by the UK´s Department for International Development (DFID) and the World Bank.



A joint meeting of the rights defenders held here on Thursday has reached to a conclusion to raise voice for the disclosure of the report after holding consultations with stakeholders.



It is noted that the report, which was already prepared last year, was not brought to public domain with a huge pressure to the DFID from Brahmin, Chhetri and Dashnami communities.



The rights activists went on saying that it was all because of fear psychology in the high castes that the disclosure of report would elevate the rights of Dalit, women, Muslim and indigenous nationalities and axe their existing rights and privileges.



The meeting heavily criticized the National Planning Commission for issuing a circular asking for the United Nations to review the policy being formulated with a focus on the marginalized groups as part of its five-year strategy.



Next meeting of the rights defenders to take place on coming Monday will decide the protest programmes, said Chairperson of Jagaran Media Centre Rem Bahadur Biswokarma.
