Issuing a press statement on Friday, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) stated the government collected Rs 50.48 billion in VAT, Rs 29.11 billion in customs duty and Rs 31.97 billion in income tax. Similarly, it mobilized Rs 21.17 billion in excise duty, Rs 2.38 billion in registration fee, Rs 2.35 billion in vehicle tax and Rs 21.52 in non-tax revenue during the period.[break]
Revenue from VAT commanded 32 percent of the total revenue collection during the period followed by income tax with 20 percent share. Similarly, revenue from customs, non-tax revenue and excise duty contributed 18 percent, 14 percent and 13 percent of the total revenue collection during the period.
Meanwhile, revenue review meeting was held at the Ministry of Finance under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Bharat Mohan Adhikari on Friday.
Speaking at the meeting, Adhikari instructed the officials concerned to expedite the process of taking action against the fake VAT receipt racketeers with high priority. Finance Secretary Krishna Hari Baskota also directed the officials to speed up settlement revenue related cases, make specific plan for revenue mobilization, activate customs network to discourage smuggling and expedite investigation against fake VAT bill racketeers.
