KATHMANDU, Dec 3: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa has expressed confidence that the current crisis in the country will end within a few days.

DPM Thapa, who met Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday during his three-day visit to India, said that he had open discussions with Indian leaders about the obstructions at border checkpoints and the plight of the Nepali people.

"The meetings were fruitful. I hope they were helpful in clearing differences in the bilateral relations. I am hopeful that the prevailing situation will improve soon. I hope for results in a few days," said Thapa upon his arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport on Thursday.

Swaraj had telephoned Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli Wednesday  when Thapa was still in Delhi. Also, on Thursday morning Swaraj had called Oli again after her talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He urged the media and the general public not to run after rumors and speculations but to wait for results. "Since there are some serious issues involved, ny request is to wait for results rather than ruining the situation by working up any particular issue," he added.

Following the press meet at the airport, DPM Thapa had reached the offices of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N) to welcome the newly appointed general secretaries of the party central committee. He said on the occasion that his second visit to India was more fruitful than the previous one.

After taking charge at the Foreign Ministry, DPM Thapa had visited India in the third week of October also, when he met Indian Prime Minister Modi, along with other Indian leaders.

"The blockage will end as abruptly as it was imposed," Thapa told party cadres. "I am hopeful that the situation will change soon," he added.

India has been obstructing imports to Nepal, citing the agitations by Madhes-based parties at the border checkpoints. Regional parties within the United Democratic Madhesi Front and some others have been leading the agitations in Madhes since the last 110 days. They are demanding changes in federal province delineations, constitutional assurances of proportional representation in state mechanisms and delimitation of electoral constituencies on the basis of population.
